IPL 2021 – CSK’S Faf du Plessis: The national contracts by Cricket South Africa (CSA) for the 2021-22 season were released on Tuesday. Former South Africa captain and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player Faf du Plessis failed to make it to the list.

The development comes days after Faf du Plessis took retirement from Test cricket to focus on T20 World Cup.

It has been an honour to play for my country in all the formats of the game, but the time has come for me to retire from Test cricket,” he had said, adding, “The next two years are ICC T20 World Cup years. Because of this, my focus is shifting to this format and I want to play as much of it as possible around the world so that I can be the best player I can possibly be.”
Faf du Plessis will feature in the upcoming IPL 2021 next month, preparations for which are underway at a training camp in Chennai’s Cheapauk Stadium. Chennai Super Kings will play their opening match against Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 10.
du Plessis will play with a new opening batsman this season as Shane Watson has bid adieu to all forms of cricket. He is likely to open with promising youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad or newly-bought IPL veteran Robin Uthappa. The right-handed batsman is expected to play key innings for CSK in their bid to win the IPL trophy. The 36-year-old was retained by the Chennai-based franchise for Rs 1.6 crore.
