Kaizer Chiefs’ problems continue to deepen as one of their star attackers will miss Sunday’s Soweto derby with Orlando Pirates.
Amakhosi will be with Lebogang Manyama who will be serving a one-match ban.
The lanky attacker picked up his fourth yellow card when Chiefs played to a 1-1 draw to Maritzburg United over a week ago.
This is a huge blow for Gavin Hunt and his Chiefs technical team, especially upfront where the team has been struggling to find consistency this season.
And while Manyama hasn’t been that lethal this season, he has contributed goals whenever he could as Hunt sometimes played him in a more advanced role.
He has scored three times and grabbed two assists in 26 competitive matches for Chiefs this season but his presence would have made a huge difference against opponents as tough as Pirates.
Hunt may be forced to bring back Samir Nurkovic who has just returned from injury and isn’t quite for a game of this magnitude.
Leonardo Castro is out injured and it’s unclear if he will return just on time for the Soweto derby, but if not, Hunt may have to see who he partners Nurkovic with on the day.
He has Lazarous Kambole and Bernard Parker as options but how far the duo can go in dismantling Pirates is another question.
