Joseph Dion Ngute

Cameroonian Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute and visiting World Bank Regional Vice President for West and Central Africa, Ousmane Diagana, on Tuesday held discussions on how to harness energy potentials to boost development and economy of the Central African nation that has been badly affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

The World Bank seeks to play a bigger role in sustainable energy projects around the globe and Cameroon has what it takes for such projects, Diagana said.

“Energy transforms agriculture, energy increases access to education, energy makes health systems actually function better,” Diagana told reporters after meeting with the Prime Minister in the capital, Yaounde.

“Cameroon is a country with huge potentials in the energy sector and we are committed to work with the government to make sure that Cameroon could have easy access to energy for a better transformation of the country’s economy,” he added.

He said that he was also pleased that Cameroon has stepped up efforts to vaccinate its citizens against COVID-19 pandemic but stressed that more people need to be vaccinated and “this will require lots of communication and outreach activities”. Enditem
