The Town of Georgina has received an Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) grant for the expansion of the Egypt Works Yard. The ICIP: COVID-19 Resilience Stream – Local Government Grant Program provides $507,364 in funding.
“This is great news and will allow us to be more efficient and responsive in delivering roads-related services,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “Investing in infrastructure is vital for our growing community, and we are grateful to all levels of government for their continued support in allowing us to grow and expand our services. I would also like to thank Town staff for their hard work in securing this grant funding.”
The Town submitted a proposal to build a 2,800-square-foot expansion to the Egypt Works Yard office/administration space. The addition would expand the administrative floor area from the current 825 square feet in order to accommodate 25 to 30 staff. It would provide an expanded and improved work area to meet the requirements for physical distancing, improved ventilation and enhanced delivery of essential municipal services. Additional funding for the project required over and above the ICIP grant will be funded through development charges.
This expansion project is underway with the target completion date of June 2022.
ICIP is a 10-year, $30-billion federal, provincial and municipal program that provides funding to improve public transit; community, culture and recreation; green; rural and northern community, and other priority infrastructure. Ontario is investing $10.2 billion in this program.
