CS Juma tips COP26 on Kenya’s low carbon cooking solutions

Energy Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma on Tuesday delivered a keynote address at the SDG7 side event at the UN Climate Change Conference.

Her address focused on scaling up low carbon cooking in line with Kenya’s aspiration to attain clean cooking by 2028.

She said that one area where Kenya is leading from the front is facilitating citizen engagement in the promotion of clean cooking solutions and empowerment of communities, especially women and other vulnerable segments of the society.

Later, Juma also held a bilateral meeting with Global Wind Energy Council Chairman Morten Dyrholm and his team on the sidelines of COP26.

The two discussed wind energy, as well as the convergence around green hydrogen as a fuel for the future and an anchor for decarbonization.

“The Ministry of Energy is currently undertaking research on Kenya’s hydrogen potential for green hydrogen, ammonia, synthetic fuels and other derivatives to fundamentally transform the economy of Kenya,” Juma said.

The meeting agreed that the two sides would work towards building capacity in technology that is accessible, cheaper and optimal to guarantee the quality, reliable and cost-effective power that improves quality of life and powers productivity.
