DENTON – Former North Texas women’s basketball player Acheil Tac is a member of the South Sudan team competing in the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2021 Zone 5 Qualifiers from July 12-17 at the Kigali Arena in the Rwandan capital.
Games are scheduled from July 12-17 featuring host Rwanda, Egypt, Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan.
South Sudan, competing as a team for the first time, dropped its first pair of contests to Egypt Monday and Kenya Tuesday but will look for victories against Rwanda Wednesday before quarterfinals begin July 16 followed by the finals July 17.
The winner of the tournament will qualify for the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2021 set for September 17-26 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Yaounde, Cameroon.

As a senior for the Mean Green, Tac averaged 11.6 points on 54-percent shooting from the field along with 8.3 rebounds. The Garland native posted career-highs of 26 points and 19 rebounds while at North Texas.
