Suicide bombings kill three people in Uganda

Three people were reportedly killed and at least 33 were injured in explosions that rocked the capital of Uganda. Police suspect the attacks were suicide bombings carried out by Islamist militants.

The bombings took place near the parliament building and a police station in Kampala on Tuesday.

Police say two attackers detonated their device near the parliament building, and another set off explosives near the police station.

Police suspect a Ugandan extremist group with a possible link to the Islamic State militants may have been responsible for the attacks.

The group claimed responsibility for a fatal restaurant attack in Kampala in October.

Uganda is known to have been relatively safe, but the latest series of attacks are stoking fears of the threat of extremists.
