Vaccinated Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates supporters will have free access to the next Soweto Derby derby on 6 November at FNB Stadium.
This follows SAFA’s decision to allow South Africans who have had their jab to attend Bafana Bafana’s 2022 Soccer World Cup Qualifier against Ethiopia on 12 October.
According to Goal’s official website, SAFA and the PSL are looking to drive mass vaccinations nationwide.
“On the same breath, Safa’s Special Member, the NSL has resolved to use the Soweto Derby to also encourage mass vaccination drive,” stated a SAFA official.
This match is one of, if not, the biggest in SA football. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the Soweto Derby would sell out every single time Chiefs and Pirates were scheduled to play one another.
It has been over a year and a half since the PSL has allowed fans into the stadium. This match is the perfect way to motivate a mass vaccination drive.
“The more the people are vaccinated the more the economic opportunities are opened for those selling their products. Taxi drivers who take fans to the stadiums will also be encouraged to vaccinate and football will engage various taxi associations to work together,” confirmed the SAFA official.
The sooner we are all get vaccinated the quicker we can return to stadiums.
Free access to watch Bafana Bafana and the Soweto Derby is the perfect incentive to get the jab!
