Former Orlando Pirates defender Patrick Phungwayo has been released on bail following his arrest last week.
The 33-year-old former Buccaneers left-back has been released on R5 000 bail with a future court date yet to be determined.
Phungwayo was sensationally arrested in connection with a number of criminal activities – including hijacking, house robbery and being in possession of stolen property.
Two hijacked cars were found at his residence.
In addition, Phungwayo and his friend David Sekgobela were charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
According to his friend Joe Seanego, Phungwayo’s charge has been downgraded from a stage 5 charge to stage 1.
“Yes the boy is out, we are busy paying his R5 000 bail as we speak,” Seanego reportedly told Kickoff.
“At the moment we are still in court, as they are still going to inform us on when he is expected to appear in court again.”
